Election Monitoring: AU Observers At Work

The twelve-man delegation in the country has the mission to comprehensively assess the electoral process in line with the African Union long-term election observation methodology.
Within the framework of fostering electoral integrity, interested election observers are expected in the country to monitor the organisation of the presidential election billed for October 7.
It is within this context that a twelve-man delegation of the African Union is in Cameroon to evaluate the entire electoral process. Comprising four analysts and eight long-term observers, they arrived in the country on September 5, and are scheduled to leave on October 19.
In a statement issued by the Pan-African organisation on Wednes day September 5, 2018, the long-term observation mission will be accompanied by a short-term observation mission close to the polling day of October 7, from September 28, 2018 to October 10, 2018. They have the objective of elevating the entire election process (pre and post-election period).
The AU also recalls in its release that the overall objective of African Union election observation missions is to promote democracy and enhance public confidence in electoral processes in AU member states. The missions are deployed in accordance with the aspirations of the African Union set out in Agenda 2063, in particular
