Yaounde-Douala Expressway : Efforts Multiply To Make Road Usable Soon

The first phase (60km) of the road from Yaounde will be connected to the existing National Road No. 3 once construction is completed.

Stakeholders involved in the construction of the Yaounde-Douala double-carriage (express) have disclosed that efforts have been stepped up to get the first phase of the road (60km) completed. They took turns to speak on Tuesday February 5, 2019, during a meeting to evaluate ongoing road construction projects in the country. The week-long evaluation meeting opened in Yaounde on Monday February 4, 2019, and is being presided at by the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi.

According to officials of China First Highway Engineering Company (CFHEC); the road construction enterprise executing the project, the Yaounde-Douala expressway has been completed from Kilometric Point (PK) 0 to PK 20, except for road signs which have to be put up. They added that from PK 20 to PK 40, the first coat of tar has been laid and in the near future, the final coat of tar, road signs and safety walls will be put in place. As concerns PK 40 to PK 50, Cameroon Tribune learned the stretch had just been liberated after the payment of indemnities, to give way to clearing, grading and terracing. The payment of compensations to locals along PK 50 to PK 60 was said to be in view.

Once all the first 60 km constituting the first phase of the road will be completed, officials said the road will be connected to the National Road No. 3 which already links the economic capital Douala to the political capital Yaounde. It will be immediately put into use to ease t...
