MP says decentralization is best form of Governance

Hon. Joseph Kankeu of the Mifi constituency, says complete decentralization is best form of governance that will enable the population to play more active role in local public affairs. He said decentralization that goes with the transferred of competence and responsibilities to local authorities, is simply to encourage local governance, that will offer opportunities for ordinary people to play more active role in the development process, based on consensus that involves local authorities elected by the populace. Hon. Kankeu, who is on a sensitization campaign tour of the three subdivisions in Mifi division of the West region, was speaking in Bafoussam on 3,May, 2019,while officially launching his sensitization campaign tour to explain the importance of decentralization as best option to achieve development. He said progress towards decentralization was well advanced with the creation of the Ministry of Decentralization and Local development. Hon. Kankeu cited decree N°.2019/0829/PM of 22, February, 2019, setting up the allocation and funds for the effective functioning of the decentralization process which is already enshrined in the state vision development plan, He announced that a number of decrees have been signed by the Head of State to define each authority prerogative.
