Even though the Taifa Stars have been in the competition only once, their dream is to go beyond the group stage in this edition of CHAN Cameroon 2021.
The Taifa Stars of Tanzania will compete for the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) title for the second time. Tanzania are placed in Group D alongside Namibia, Guinea and Zambia that are coached by former Cranes coach Serbian Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic. The team has support from the Tanzania Football Federation as a way of helping the team excel in the competition.
Taifa Stars qualified for CHAN finals after crushing out Sudan 2-1 in the reversed leg played in Sudan’s capital, Khathoum with Ditram Nchimbi scoring the winning goal on the day. The first leg at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam between the two teams ended 1-0 in favour of Sudan hence Tanzania progressed on away goal rule in the return match where they simply smartly overturned the scoreboard. Before coming to Cameroon, the Taifa Stars had been fine-tuning their skills in Tanzania. Their preparations were slowed down due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic. As part of preparations, the Taifa Stars played friendly match with Burundi on October 11, 2020 to keep the team on top form.
