Clubs Situation Improved

Some major changes in the new format of the Elite One championship are intended to ensure that the teams play in good conditions.

The new format of the 2021-2022 Elite One ad Elite Two Championship in Cameroon came up with some obvious changes. The decision was arrived at during a meeting between the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and the Transitional Council of Professional Football League at FECAFOOT on March 14, 2022 in Yaounde. The changes took effect at the start of the new season on March 16, 2022 when the championship kicked off at the Mbouda Municipal Stadium. The innovations are intended to help in the growth of local football in Cameroon.
Among the major changes for the 2021-2022 season is the improvement on the condition of players. The teams are the greatest beneficiaries of the new format. For instance, the prize money for the Elite One championship for Cameroon 2021-2022 season has been fixed at FCFA 50 million. This brought about an increase of FCFA 30 million as compared to the package bagged home by the current champion of Cameroon, Coton Sport of Garoua last season. The amount was increased by the football federation in order to improve the level of the competition in the Elite One championship. Also FECAFOOT subventions to Elite One and Two clubs witnessed a huge increase. Subventions for Elite One clubs which stood at FCFA 10 million per club during the past seasons have moved up to FCFA 20 million for the 2021-2022 season.
