The revision of the electoral register for the current year 2022 ended last August 31 and Elections Cameroon officials say over seven million Cameroonians are enrolled in the electoral register ahead of the future elections in the country.
On the heels of the end of the revision operation and while the cleaning of the register is going on, ELECAM officials have engaged consultation sessions with the stakeholders of the electoral process. So far, the Chairperson of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon, Enow Abrams Egbe and other officials have met and discussed with some cabinet ministers, leaders of political parties and on October 5, 2022 the consultation was with leaders of civil society organisations. The objective is to enable the stakeholders share their experiences and commitment in order to improve the electoral process in preparation for upcoming elections.
Success of any electoral process begins with the registration of potential voters. It is at the level of registration of voters that key stakeholders need to intervene and cause potential voters to enrol in the registers. This is because the success of the registration process that is certainly a guarantee of credible elections with results accepted by most stakeholders, should be the fruit of collective work. The elections governing institution, ELECAM is there to put in place all the material and logistical preparations, while political parties that would want to use elections to get to powers must convince their members and potential voters in general to enrol in the electoral registers. Civil society organisations on their part have to use their lobbying strategies depending on the target group they want to emancipate politically to cause members of such groups to register massively so as to vote during elections.
