What solutions can be put in place to make the economy more resilient?
We are striving to make our economy more resilient. This is why I mentioned some of the problems. For example, inflation in our sub-region is low. But is it because of what the Central bank has done or is it because of what the government is doing? Let me take the example of subsidies. We have a lot of subsidies for agricultural products, petrol, and we know that if there is an increase in the price of petrol now, inflation will increase as well. I don’t think this is the consequence of what BEAC has done, but also what the different governments have done. Another question is what we call the reserves which is the foreign currencies we have in our Central Bank. The result we have shows that we have four months of importation. But I think we should not forget that we have embarked in programmes with IMF and those programmes have helped us to have some supports from this institution. At the end of these programmes, what will happen when we will not be receiving those helps anymore from those institutions? This simply means that there is a lot to do. We think that the way forward is to increase production and exportation...
