Improving Private Enterprises : GECAM Strategies

This was the outcome of the first board meeting of the newly elected executive members held on Friday 19 April.

Members of the newly elected Executive Committee of the Groupement des Entreprises du Cameroun (GECAM) held their first board meeting on 19 April to map out operational strategies and ensure the smooth functioning of the institution during their four-year mandate.  The closed-door meeting also evaluated the last Elective General Assembly and came up with a one-year action plan. The Board meeting also outlined the working guidelines for the various commissions set up.
During a press conference after the Board meeting, the members reaffirmed their commitment to the development of enterprises in Cameroon. They also announced that they would be lobbying the government to put in place flexible and adaptable policies for businesses in Cameroon. They regretted that the tax system in Cameroon sometimes does not favour businesses, especially small, medium and micro-enterprises. For the President of GECAM, Celestin Tawamba, there is a lack of trust between SMSs and financial institutions because SMSs often have difficulties in repaying loans. He was aware of the fact that SMSes were unable to repay their loans because of difficult banking conditions.
