Tourism Day : Bamenda Hosts Celebrations

The event celebrated worldwide on September 27 each year, was chaired by the Tourism Minister, Bello Bouba Maïgari.
The 45th edition of the World Tourism Day was celebrated on Friday, September 27, 2024. To commemorate the event in Cameroon, the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure decided to celebrate the day in the Bamenda under the auspices of the Minister of State, Bouba Bello Maïgari.
Speaking during the event which took place at the Auditorium of the Regional Assembly in Bamenda, the Minister said Bamenda was chosen because it is a Region that has witnessed insecurity since 2016 and the population has demonstrated a spirit of resilience. The celebration in Bamenda was therefore an opportunity to show support for the people of the North West Region and encourage investors in the tourism sector despite the insecurity in line with the theme of the celebration this year, which is ‘Tourism and Peace’. He said Tourism could be a factor of cohesion and fostering peace and development. Bello Bouba Maigari also read the speech of the Secretary General of the UN Tourism on the occasion of the celebrations.
The Bamenda City Mayor Paul Achobong thanked the minister for choosing Bamenda to host the event, saying the North West Region is rich in tourism potentials ranging from the undulating mountains, waterfalls to monumental palaces, cultural practices and attractive traditional adornment known as the ‘Atogho’. The Representative of the President of the Regional Assembly highlighted the actions that have been taken by the august house to promote tourism in the Region such as creating Regional Tourism Board and the Peace and Development Initiative being implemented across the Region.
