Humanitarian Mission : Egyptian Team Treats Over 60 Patients

The free surgical sessions at the Yaounde Central Hospital which ended last Friday November 16, 2024 was carried out by the Coptic Orthodox Church from Egypt.
When there is help, there is hope. This statement best describes the mental state of over 60 patients at the Yaounde Central Hospital. Last week, the patients experienced the good news of God’s healing power through a team of medical doctors from Egypt. This was during a successful charity mission carried out by the Coptic Orthodox Church from Egypt and the NGO; Coptic Medical Association of North America (CMANA)-Canada branch from 11 to 16 November 2024 at the Yaounde Central Hospital.
The Coordinator of CMANA, Meruat Shenouda said through the Embassy of Egypt, they came to Cameroon to explore new areas where medical services are needed. During the mission, the team which consisted of an anaesthesiologist, two general surgeons and three administrative staff from the Coptic Orthodox Church and CMANA consulted 69 patients and carried out 50 surgical sessions on patients (mostly children) with different pathologies. One of the Surgeons, Dr Magued Khouzam said they met and worked with an experienced team of doctors and nurses in Cameroon. According to him, it has been a great team of medical doctors working for close to four days handling cases of Gastro Intestinal Tract, appendix, gallbladders, hernia, lipomas removal, amongst others. He also noted that the team was ready to carry out advanced laparoscopic cases if there was any. “Through further collaborations with the hospital, we are going to teach the medical team how to do large and small intestine surgeries as well as surgery to help people lose weight”, Dr Magued Khouzam noted.
