Buea : New Born Baby Rescued From Pit Toilet

A new born child on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, was saved from a pit toilet in Bokwango, a neigbourhood in Buea. A lady whose name had not been gotten at press time dumped her new born baby in the toilet in the early hours of Wednesday immediately after she gave birth, apparently alone.  It was thanks to a student who wanted to use the toilet that morning at 6:30 am when he heard the cry of a baby inside the toilet. He alerted his mother, Dorothy Nkemasong Epupa, who rushed to the scene and saw the infant on feces after pointing torch inside the pit toilet.
Dorothy Nkemasong said she jumped out of the pit toilet shouting at the top of her voice for help. Without any waste of time, the population congregated in their numbers in her compound. Immediately, they brainstormed on means to save the child and finally settled on using a stick and rope. They knotted a rope on a stick and hooked the child on one of his legs and pulled him out of the pit toilet. That is when they noticed it was a male child who still had the unbiblical cord attached to his body.
The child with excrement all over his body was placed on a nylon sack. Some school children brought in their bathing warm water and it was used in cleaning the baby. Some women brought cloths and the child was dressed. He was taken to the Buea Regional Hospital by Dorothy Nkemasong Epupa and Hannah Ebene Ndive. They said the child who underwent a series of medical checks is doing well. The two women later reported the incident to the Police.
