External Relations : Giving Impetus To Bilateral, Multilateral Ties

Ensuring Cameroon has greater diplomatic presence through enhanced bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as the diversification of partners, stands as the priority of the Ministry of External Relations for 2025. This was highlighted by Minister Mbella Mbella, on January 21, 2025 as he together with the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu, received New Year wishes from the staff of the central and devolved services of the Ministry.
The Minister exhorted his collaborators and the staff of the Ministry to valorise their talents and work in synergy, which to him is the most apt way of surmounting challenges faced. He stressed on giving dynamism to cooperation ties and defending the viewpoint of Cameroon on contemporary issues. The respect of the sovereignty of States, Minister Mbella Mbella noted is the basis of Cameroon’s diplomacy. The election of Philemon Yang as the President of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Hilarion Etong as the President of the Francophonie Parliament and the designation of Marie-Laure Akin-Olugbade as Vice President of the African Development Bank, are some of the successes Minister Mbella Mbella noted that Cameroon recorded in 2024 at the international scene as concerns the holding of strategic positions, something he adds should be continued in 2025. The inclusion of the Ngoun (an over 600-year-old festival that celebrates the rich and vibrant culture of the Bamoun people of the West Region) in UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage is another diplomatic victory External Relations Minister highlighted.
