An official funeral was offered in honour of late David Abouem à Tchoyi on February 8, 2025 in Kiki village, Mbam et Inoubou Division of the Centre Region.
Solemn! That is how the ceremony to pay last respects to a Statesman, David Abouem à Tchoyi, who served the nation in several capacities in loyalty, can be discribed. Several personalities and people showed up to pay homage to the former Minister and Member of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, whose official funeral as instituted by the Head of State, took place on February 8, 2025 in his native Kiki village in the Centre Region. The President of the Bilingualism Commission, Peter Mafany Musonge represented the Head of State at the official funeral and equally on behalf of the later, raised the deceased to the dignity of Grand Cordon of the Cameroonian Order of Merit. In attendance were several members of government, administrative, traditional and religious authorities.
David Abouem à Tchoyi, as discribed by the Head of State in his condolence message to the family, read by the Senior Divisional Officer of Mbam et Inoubou, Garba Bakary, was a man of competences, perfectly bilingual, had high esteem for the State and discret throughout his rich administrative and political career. President Paul Biya adds that he has always held the superscale civil administrator in high esteem who was his close collaborator at the Prime Minister's Office. David Abouem à Tchoyi was Secretary General at the aforementioned institution when Paul Biya was Prime Minister and also served under him in the same capacity at the Presidency.
Different eulogies at the official funeral portray the departed as a man of integrity who quits the stage with his dignity intact. The Vice President of the Bilingualism Commission, Oumarou Djika, who spoken on behalf of the institution said they are in tears and still in difficulty to believe that the departed is dead. His sense of patriotism and intellectual honesty are some of the things, the Vice President notes that will be greatly missed. "He was a passionate worker. He mastered the stakes and challenges of these current times and was still very much needed, but hélas, death took him away. Oh death, where is thy victory," said Oumarou Djika who adds that they will forever cherish the memories created together and hold on to his contageous smiles.
The eldest daughter of the deceased, Dr Dorette Abouem noted that their father was a humble, faithful, and brave man who held firm to his convictions but was open to listen to others without prejudice.
