Douala General Hospital: Triplets Leave In Good Condition

I t was all joy and happiness at the Douala General Hospital on Wednesday, February 19, as the triplets born to 20-year-old Foyete Nhnillase Elza on January 14 were finally discharged. At 6 months of pregnancy, 20-year-old Foyete Nhnillase Elza was delivered of a set of triplets at the Douala General Hospital through caesarean section. The children, who weighed just over 1 kg at birth, were cared for 36 days in the neonatal unit of the Douala General Hospital. For over a month, the hospital was able to resuscitate the children and keep them alive with thorough medical care. When they left the hospital on Wednesday, February 19, the boys weighed 2.20 kg, and 2.15 respectively while the girl 2.05 kg. According to Dr. Eloumou Bissassa, a paediatrician at the Douala General Hospital neonatal unit, the children left the hospital in a stable condition that will allow them to survive in the outside world. He said that after 36 days in the incubator, the children were now autonomous in terms of digestion, nutrition and temperature. He added that the children still need thorough medical check-ups, which is why they have to be taken to the hospital every two days for medical check-ups. He added that the mother and other family members of the triplets have been trained on how to take care of the children at home. The Deputy Director General of the hospital, Professor Kedy Mangamba, said the Douala General Hospital was determined to keep the children alive, saying the children were delivered prematurely at 29 weeks of pregnancy, a very delicate stage.
