Douala General Hospital : Knee Orthopaedic Surgery Available

A one-week awareness campaign to sensitize the population on the availability, affordability and reliability of knee surgery at the Douala General Hospital has come to an end. The campaign, which ended recently, saw experts from within and outside Cameroon share experiences and expertise as well as collaborate to stay abreast of technological advancements in the field. It is obvious that the Douala General Hospital has the competence and technology to carry out our successful knee surgery reasons why Prof. Fokam Pius, Head of Department Surgery and Specialties, said the campaign includes total knee replacement surgery.
“We have some collaborators coming from the US who are assisting in this surgery and sharing knowledge. This time we have operated 20 patients which is affordable. Because we have support from Work Strong and Katic foundation from the US". He said the partners made the device at a very low cost and are FDA approved implants just like the implant they use in the US that has been brought to Cameroon. He recalled that a similar campaign took place at the hospital sometime last year and since then, many more people have come to the hospital for their knee surgeries.
