Agriculture : Planting Still Ongoing

Farmers who, for one reason or another, didn't plant last March, are being urged to get on with it.
This is the time of year when farmers are busy with farm work. Planting at the right time of year (planting season) is crucial to the success of the crop, as it allows the plants to establish strong root systems, thrive in favourable conditions and maximise growth and yield, ultimately resulting in a healthier and more productive crop. In the coastal region, some farmers who didn't plant last March are still in the process of planting. At the moment, some farmers are already weeding, while others are still planting.
The Regional Delegate of Agriculture and Rural Development for the Littoral Region, Mr Konde Jean Claude, said it's not too late as farmers who for one reason or another could not plant last month can still plant their crops as the rains are still there. However, he added that proper planning is essential for farmers to avoid common mistakes and reap a bountiful harvest. In the Littoral Region, the main planting season typically runs from March to June for the first crop, with a possible second crop from August to December.
