Bee Farming : Gov’t Donates Modern Equipment To Farmers

The donation was made during a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr Taiga, on April 3, 2025 in Yaounde.
About 30 bee keepers from across the country received on April 3, 2025, in Yaounde, brand new bee keeping materials and equipment from the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries. The benefactors were primarily honey production enterprises. The donation included essential bee keeping gear wear such as gloves and bee suits, as well as 500 beehives, wax rollers, frame wires and other necessary items for successful bee rearing. This initiative aims to enhance the production capacity of Cameroon's apicultural sector, which has been experiencing a slight decline in bee population due to annual infections. The government intends to improve the quality of locally produced honey to avoid dependency on imports. Recent statistics indicate that the sector was able to produce 8,000 tons of honey in 2024, and with the donation, stakeholders are expected to increase both the quantity and quality of their products.
The Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries , Dr Taiga highlighted that the materials and equipment will accelerate the exportation of honey produced in Cameroon within the CEMAC Sub region. “Honey production is already a thriving activity in Cameroon, and the best way to support these farmers is by providing them with modern equipment that will boost their production and elevate their presence on the international scene,” he noted.
