Senate : Taxation, Aviation Bills Tabled

Three bills were yesterday April 6, 2025 tabled at the Senate during a plenary sitting chaired by the Senior Vice President, Aboubakary Abdoulaye.
Senators have received some three bills relating to tax evasion and civil aviation. There were tabled during a plenary sitting chaired by the Senior Vice President, Aboubakary Abdoulaye yesterday April 6, 2025. This was after a Chairmen’s Conference presided by the aforementioned legislator, where the bills were deemed admissible. The legal instruments were immediately examined by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate after their tabling.
One of the bills tabled seeks to authorise the President of the Republic to ratify the Tax Convention between Cameroon and the People's Republic of China on the elimination of double taxation with respect to income tax and the prevention of tax evasion and fraud, signed in Beijing, China, on October 17, 2023.
The Convention applies to the taxation of residents of either or both States Parties, particularly as regards personal income and corporate tax, to enable both countries to avoid double taxation. In addition to corporate and personal income tax, it covers contributions to the Housing Loans Fund, the National Employment Fund and other payroll taxes. The Convention will also improve existing legislation to combat tax fraud and evasion. Explanatory notes of the legal instrument indicate that its ratification will contribute towards improving investment promotion conditions and attracting foreign investors to Cameroon, through its multiple tax benefits, including preferential tax rates on investment income, the principle of non-discrimination which guarantees taxpayers' rights and the fight against international tax evasion through cooperation between the two tax administrations.
