U17 AFCON 2025 : Cameroon Eliminated

The U17 Lions have been knocked out of the competition during the last two editions without winning a single group match.

The Cadet Lions of Cameroon after their poor outing in 2023 in Algeria where they lost their two group matches, have suffered a similar fate in the ongoing 15th edition of the tournament in Morocco.  The Lions were beaten 2-1 by Egypt yesterday 6 April 2025 during their last group B game at the El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia some 30km from Casablanca. It was a though encounter that kept spectators alert throughout the game given the stakes. Both Cameroon and Egypt needed a victory to be sure of qualification for the play-offs for the World Cup. 
The U17 Lions of Cameroon began by dominating the game from the start, putting much pressure up front however they lost their opportunities. The Egyptians equally put up a strong fight, but also missed several scoring chances. Cameroon opened score at the 32nd minute through penalty executed by André Jordan Emini Zibi. That served as booster for the U17 Lions. Their joy was not for long as the Egyptians also replied through a penalty taken by Hamza Abdelkarem. At half time, the score line was 1-1. On resumption, Cameroon continued with their onslaught but they had to deal with a solid defence of the Egyptians. The Lions fought hard with good play style, but they lacked finishing. Egypt had an opportunity which they increased scores at the 66th minute from a goal mouth tussle. Replacements made by the Coach Alioum Saidou to bring fresh blood to the team did not help much.
