The young Atlas Lions beat Mali 4-2 through penalty shootout during the final that took place in Mohammedia on Saturday April 19, 2025.
Host Morocco emerged overall winner of the 15th edition of the U17 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations that ended in Morocco on Saturday April 19, 2025. The young Atlas Lions of Morocco beat two-times winners, Mali 4-2 through penalty shootout after regular time ended 0-0 during the final that took place at the El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia. It was a thrilling encounter as each side struggled hard to grab the coveted trophy. Mali had full control of the game throughout the first half and opened scores but the goal was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee that pointed at a handball in the goal process. Morocco equally fought hard but they squandered their chances. At half time the score line was 0-0.
The Moroccans came up stronger during the second half, putting much pressure on the Malians. However, they had to deal with a solid Malian defence. Mali pressed hard upfront making several attempts at goal but their shots were off target. Both sides put up remarkable performances but no side was able to find the back of the net. All efforts by both sides to score were in vain. Only penalty shootout could separate the teams. During the penalty shootout, Morocco scored all four of their penalties while Mali lost two of theirs thanks to saves by goalkeeper Chouaib Bellaarouch.
