Digital Transformation : GITEX Organisers Hail Africa’s Tech Progress

The three-day event in Morocco was a landmark platform which provided the opportunity for over 800 startups and 1,500 exhibitors to showcase their products and services.

Organisers of GITEX Africa 2025 have lauded the significant progress the continent has made in the last few years in terms of digital transformation. The Chief Executive Officer of KAOUN International, the organiser of GITEX events around the world, Trixie LohMirmand, made the remarks in an interview at the end of the tech exhibition which ran from April 14-16 in Marrakech, Morocco. “I think this year has been empowering for many of the attendees who came in to have their first opportunity to exchange. It shows Africa’s technological advancements,” LohMirmand said. She noted that this year’s edition of the show also had an undertone of urgency in dealing with some of the emerging threats brought about by AI. It was also an edition that highlighted the rapid entrenchment of AI into Africa’s ecosystem, she says.“GITEX Africa has been an opportunity for those not just in the tech industry, but those across other domains, to showcase their potential,” she said. “Whether it's in the manufacturing sector, healthcare or finance, it's their first opportunity to understand more about what AI is, how it's being used, what it all means, and, you know, trying to find use cases and looking for investments.”
Still in line with AI and the threats they increasingly pose to cybersecurity, LohMihmand said GITEX Africa 2025 also underscored the crucial importance of public-private partnerships in working together to “build up more defences and strengthen security systems as they move along.” GITEX Africa 2025 was a landmark event which provided the opportunity not only for startups to showcase their products and services, but also to forge partnerships and establish important networks that can drive innovation and growth.
