South West : Chief Of Defence Staff Assesses Security Situation

The security situation in the South West Region has been examined by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General René Claude Meka. This was during the first phase of operational control and evaluation mission of the security situation for the first semester of 2025. 
The high-level military visit comes on the heels of a stopover in Douala and forms part of a broader operational oversight tour. General René Claude Meka’s presence in Buea signalled a clear message of continuity and resolve in stabilizing the region amidst persistent, though declining, threats from terrorist groups. During the in-camera session on April 29, 2025, in Buea, the Chief of Defence Staff highlighted the need to reinforce security dispositions in the South West Region.
After military honours, three major presentations were made by different Military heads notably; Colonel Enye’e Meka Manuel, Commander of the 21st Motorized Infantry Brigade, Colonel Kola, Head of the South West Gendarmerie Legion, and Commander of the 10th Military Health Sector, Lieutenant Colonel Noumedem Blanchard.  They indicated that while sporadic attacks by armed groups continue to pose challenges, the defence forces’ sustained offensive campaigns have led to marked improvements in the security landscape. A return to routine life is gradually taking root in parts of the region, a sign of progress acknowledged by the visiting delegation.
