“Red Cross Taking Proactive Approach To HealthCare”

Dr Kamdem Adrienne, Medical Practitioner at the Cameroon Red Cross Henry Dunant Medical Centre.

What is the aim of this healthcare campaign?
The Cameroon Red Cross is taking a proactive approach to healthcare, while emphasising prevention, early detection, and treatment as a way to curb certain diseases in society. In a bid to commemorate the 78th edition of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement day, the Cameroon Red Cross is carrying out a medical outreach to people from all walks of life. The theme of the day is “Keeping Humanity Alive.” The medical campaign which began yesterday May 5th, will end on May 9th. The Henry Dunant Medical Centre of the Red Cross is carrying out free consultations on certain illnesses on which thereafter, the patients can receive vaccination, which the Health Centre is also providing at a discount cost. The main aim is to raise awareness about these diseases, provide early detection and treatment, offer vaccinations for hepatitis B at a low price and support people living with HIV through specialized care and treatments.

What are those pathologies concerned with the campaign and why?
We are providing free consultations for various health services, such as dental care, kinesitherapy as well as prenatal consultation. We are also carrying out free screening on high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and Hepatitis B and C. The Red Cross campaign is also offering discount (30 per cent) for various health services such as Echography, X-Ray and Hepatitis B and C vaccines. It is important to note that there are people who are walking about and do not know they are suffering from high blood pressure. Some people only know they have high blood pressure when they come to the hospital to consult for other ailments.
