Security Situation In NW : Chief Of Defence Staff Takes Pulse, Gives Directives

Lieutenant General Rene Claude Meka was in Bamenda on May 5, 2025.


The Cameroon Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Rene Claude Meka   spent May 5, 2025 in Bamenda with top military and security officials of the 5th Joint Military Region to evaluate the security situation of the region for the first quarter of 2025. His mission to the North West was to take pulse of the security situation and chart the way forward for security and defense forces, in the area hit by socio-political and security crisis. 
It emerge from the evaluation mission   that the security situation of the region is calm in several localities despite some sporadic attacks carried out by the non-State armed separatist fighters. The meeting gave the top military and security officials the opportunity to commune with and brief the Chief of Defence Staff about the security situation in their various areas of command. 
Speaking shortly after the meeting, Brigadier General Bouba Dobekreo who is Commander of the 5th Joint Military Region   disclosed that the region is experiencing some calm despite a few attacks perpetuated by the separatist fighters.  He said the forces will continue to work on the field to stop the harassments and activities of the separatist fighters.
