Viang Mekala, Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) of Fako Division.
As the administrative authority of Fako Division with Limbe as the headquarter, how is living together being manifested in your area of jurisdiction?
Limbe as the headquarter of Fako Division is a good example of living together. From time immemorial, Limbe has always shown the good face of living together and national integration promoted by the Head of State, His Excellency Paul Biya. Limbe has always been the place where people come from all the Regions of Cameroon and are living peacefully. Some of the people came for work during the colonial period especially road works. Others came to work in the CDC plantations and have not gone back. Some have established here and even the Anglophone crisis has not succeeded to chase them away because they don’t have anywhere else. They are here in Limbe and other Subdivisions in Fako settled with their families and they are living in peace and harmony with the indigenes of Fako Division. Limbe is the Town of Friendship and opportunities. For now, we can say that living together is a reality and we are very satisfied with the manner in which the local population (Bakweri people and other indigenes) are welcoming other Cameroonians from other places.
What is the administration doing to consolidate the harmonious living together of Cameroonians in Limbe?
As I mentioned, to consolidate living together and national integration, we address objectively all types of issues that can compromise our living together. We also encourage the population to organize socio-cultural activities. Inter-tribal marriages which we encourage are also used to promote living together. I want to quote one simple example; when political elite organize their rallies, they will not focus their interest only on the local traditional dance groups but they also invite all the population from other regions for them to take part in the meeting/celebration. This is what we encourage and con...
