Feast of the Ram: Muslim Faithful Urged To Foster Togetherness

As early as 8:00 am on June 6, 2025, men, women and children of the Essos Centrale Mosque assembled at the esplanade of the Yaounde Omnisports Stadium to celebrate the feast of the ram. With their shoes placed in front of their mats where they sat, the Muslim faithful listened attentively to the words of Imam Souley Mane, who led prayers. The crowd followed the Imam’s gestures, which included bowing and standing at different intervals. In his message to the faithful, the Imam urged them to be promoters of unity, as it is essential for the country’s development. He called on all Muslims to contribute to building unity in their various communities and the nation at large. After delivering his message, the Imam proceeded to slaughter the ram, which is believed to be a symbol of sacrifice to Allah. “The feast of sacrifice is the most important feast in the Muslim calendar. Three important things are done on this day: The prayer, the sacrifice of the ram and lastly, the glorification of Allah, the Almighty to whom all praise is due,” Souley Mane stated.
