Sexual Exploitation: Disturbing Targeting Of Kids

People seem not to bother about the means they may use to attain their goals. However, macabre their approach may be, it could either be to make money or achieve some carnal desires. A recent chilly information about the existence of a website for the recruitment of children for pornographic use sent shock waves and left many wondering at the level of moral decadence in the country. In a press release on 4 June, 2025, the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Marie Therese Abena Ondoa had to make a swift condemnation of the website that remained opened to the public without limits. Proposing adult services to members of the public without restrictions could never have been less devilish. Such an unacceptable website constituted a grievous violation of the rights of children in Cameroon and no one can afford to be comfortable with it except those who conceived such a terrible site for their selfish gains.     
In addition to the site has been open declarations by a musician stating how loose he has been with his daughters transforming one into a mother and the other serving as a sexual object to him without any sense of remorse. Abuses of this nature betray several societal shortfalls that require quick redress with the participation of all stakeholders to save the rest of the community from total destruction. Most of the discoveries are hardly new and the complicity of silence that has often shrouded the acts are heart wrenching. It is inconceivable that people should willingly condone certain acts and even conceal them within the family circle as if to say by ignoring such heinous habits they could disappear. Children are such a vulnerable set of individuals that the family circle should constitute the first safety zone for them. Once those expected to protect instead serve as destroyers, then the situation can only be worrisome. Adults who are supposed to be touch-bearers in society have increasingly used either the financial wealth or other advantages to hook wing kids into devastating moral acts that turn to leave society with no option than total despair.     
That is why the laws have to be applied with full force against individuals who try to promote deviant attitudes that seek to damage the very fabric of society. By targeting children whereby their innocence and tenderness are shattered from the very foundation, people indulging in such behavioural patterns are basically out to ensure a dark future for both the victims and the entire community. Understandably therefore, the Minister of Women’s Empowerment had to assure the public that competent government services had been contacted for action against those who created the website to lure children into sexual immorality. 
Over the years, people have created innumerable ways to get around some of the ills that they commit. The advent of the internet and the social media that followed have given room for subtler portrayal of mischievous behaviour. It therefore means that beyond inflicting punishment of online perpetrators of certain acts, there is need for stricter control measures to be put in place. It certainly requires cost, training and several other strong decisions from the State and institutions created to manage the cyber space to get a country like Cameroon out of the vicious circle. People simply hide behind solitary corners of their keyboard thinking that they can do anything and get away with it. It is high time that such actions be dealt with thoroughly so that anybody attempting to do so again should think twice. Unfortunately, children are the most present within the cyber space. Maybe because it constitutes novelties that have come with their age and time. Thus, it has been easy for people with certain hidden agendas...
