Gulf Of Guinea : Exploring Constant Security Mechanisms

External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella and Executive Secretary of the Gulf of Guinea Commission, Jose Mba Abeso had elaborate exchanges to that effect on June 17, 2025.
Within the framework of improving relations between Cameroon and the Gulf of Guinea Commission so as to better guarantee security within the maritime space, the Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella received the Executive Secretary of the Gulf of Guinea Commission on June 17, 2025. Exchanges between the two personalities focused on ensuring security in the area by combating criminal activities.
Acknowledging that the discussions were fruitful, the Executive Secretary said they exchanged on the good relations that exist between the Commission and Cameroon. “Cameroon is a member of the Gulf of Guinea Commission. And the role of the Commission is to ensure the security and safety of the maritime space. It is an enormous task and gently, we are doing a lot,” Jose Mba Abeso told reporters.
When asked about the current security situation in the maritime space, he described it using the analogy of Police officers in a city where there are criminals, with the former constantly being on the alert to maintain peace and security in the said town. “To this effect, to maintain maritime security, we need to, firstly harmonise laws, as well as the adoption of international laws that have been approved to fight piracy, illegal fishing, maritime pollution, drug and human trafficking and all sorts of crimes. We need to secure this maritime space and we need to do that on a permanent basis. It is not ensuring security today and relaxing tomorrow because when you rest, that is when the enemy hits again,” Jose Mba Abeso stated.
