Addressing Sexual Exploitation : Cameroon’s Commitment Acknowledged

This was during an audience Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute granted the Special Coordinator on improving the United Nations response to sexual exploitation and abuse, Christian Saunders, yesterday July 15, 2025.
Efforts made by Cameroon in addressing and preventing sexual exploitation and abuse have been appreciated by the Special Coordinator on improving the United Nations response to sexual exploitation and abuse, Christian Saunders on a working visit in Cameroon. He made the remark during an audience granted him by the Prime Minister Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute on July 15, 2025. Basically, the UN official is in Cameroon to make sure Cameroon has the necessary mechanisms to address sexual exploitation and abuse when it happens and bring to book those found guilty. “In the last few years, I think Cameroon has shown its commitment to preventing and protecting populations from sexual exploitation and abuse, but there are tools and things that we can learn from each other,” Christian Saunders stated shortly after his audience with the Prime Minister.
Explaining the reason for his visit and responsibilities within the United Nations, he said it is to improve the UN’s response to sexual exploitation an abuse around the world and across the United Nations. “I am in Cameroon for two reasons. Firstly, to make sure that Cameroon has the necessary mechanism to address sexual exploitation when this happens also that the perpetrators are held to account. The second reason for being here is because we have a large United Nations programme in Cameroon. So, we are here to work with the country team, to make sure that they have the necessary mechanisms in place to address this issue to make sure that it does not happen and if it happens, to make sure that it is dealt with properly,” he explained.
