African Junior Athletics Championship : Cameroonian Athletes Shine

Two silver and one bronze was the medal harvest for Team Cameroon during the just-ended African competition in Abeokuta, Nigeria.
The third combined U18 and U20 African Athletics Championship ended in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, yesterday, July 20, 2025. Organised by the Confederation of African Athletics, the competition brought together 963 athletes from 44 countries on the continent. Cameroon was among the delegations that took part in the competition. Cameroon was represented in the competition by three athletes. The athletes put up remarkable performances and made the flag of Cameroon fly high. Cameroon got their first medal through Wilframe Nguemba Olemba, 16, of the CNPS Athletics Club in the women’s U18 high jump final. She won silver after a 1m70 jump. Her second best national performance of the season is 1m65.
Ariel Essama Foe, 17, equally from the CNPS Athletics Club in the U18 final in the high jump failed to live up to expectation although he created a new record for himself. Given that he has the fourth best national performance with 1.95m jump back in Cameroon. Ariel Essama after several trials succeeded to have a 2.3m jump which was not enough to propel him to the podium to enable him win a medal for country. Ariel Essama appreciated his performance given that it is his first international competition experience and he succeeded to have above a to meters jump. He was the only male athlete for Team Cameroon and he was elected best athlete for the 2023 edition of Les Poussinades.
