October 12 Presidential Elections : Curtain Drops As More Contenders File In

At press time, five candidates had deposited at the Littoral regional office of ELECAM.

By 8 pm, Monday July 21, the Littoral regional office of ELECAM in Bonatone, Douala, had received applications from five candidates vying for the top job. All candidates, whether independent or from political parties, were warmly welcomed by ELECAM officials. While some arrived in luxury cars accompanied by chanting party supporters, others came by taxi or motorbike. One candidate came on foot. It was a busy and exciting day for onlookers and ELECAM officials alike.
Dr Tcha Wou Ngankam was the first candidate to arrive at the Littoral regional office of ELECAM, at 2 pm. Upon his arrival, the independent candidate was warmly welcomed by ELECAM officials. After examining his file, the Littoral regional ELECAM delegate, Serge Bourdon Otya’a, accepted the file and issued a receipt. Speaking to the press, the presidential hopeful said he was determined to ensure two-round elections in Cameroon if elected. Later, at around 3:30, Harouna Nassah Mounchili of the Parti Nationale Camerounaise Etoile (Cameroon National Star Party), PNCE, also submitted his candidacy application for the highest office in the Republic of Cameroon.
