CAR Presidential Election : Faustin Touadera Is Candidate

The announcement was made on July 26, 2025 in Bangui after a two-day congress of the ruling party.

President Faustin-Archange Touadera has been nominated the ruling party of the Central African Republic (CAR), United Hearts Movement (MCU), to run for the December 2025 presidential election. The incumbent was given the greenlight during an ordinary congress of the party in the CAR capital, Bangui. During the congress, militants of the MCU hailed Mr Touadera for his commitment to peace, stability, and national development in the war-torn country, according to local media.
Mr Touadera was elected CAR President in 2016 and re-elected in 2020. In his acceptance speech, Touadera didn’t only promise not to betray his compatriots during his third term mandate, be also called on the supporters of the party to work in synergy ahead of the upcoming December 2025 presidential, legislative and local elections. President Faustin Archange Touadera eligibility to stand for a third term was made possible by a 2023 constitutional amendment that scrapped term limits. The amendment also extended the presidential mandate from five to seven years.
Speaking at a gathering of his ruling party, the United Hearts Movement in Bangui, the 68-year-old Head of State said that, many people had asked him whether he intended to run for a third term and his answer was yes.
