Waka Waka for Peace : Women More Engaged

Women from the Littoral region joined their counterparts nationwide to march for peace.
On July 31, members of the Littoral coordination unit of the National Women’s Convention for Peace Cameroon organized the "Waka Waka for Peace" march as part of the Pan-African Women’s Day celebrations. This day, observed annually on July 31, recognizes and honors the contributions of women across the African continent. It aims to promote gender equality, women's rights, and empowerment while addressing the challenges faced by women in various sectors, including education, health, and political participation.
During the march in Douala, the women renewed their commitment to promoting peace in Cameroon. Supported by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, the National Women’s Convention for Peace Cameroon marched through the streets of Douala V, holding placards with messages advocating for peace and the inclusion of women in peace processes. Some of the placards read “Peace is inclusive “, “We want inclusive Dialogue”, “Peace unites”, just to name a few.
The Littoral Regional Coordinator for the National Women’s Convention for Peace Cameroon, Madam Mbocksi Djofang Jacqueline Elisabeth, explained that the Convention aims to consolidate women's efforts, highlight their achievements, and bring their actions to the attention of the government and the people of Cameroon. She emphasized, “Women deserve to be consulted and included. The National Women’s Convention for Peace has organized unprecedented events in Cameroon. In 2021, we convened 1,800 women from all 58 divisions of Cameroon in Yaoundé”.
Madam Mbocksi shared that they have engaged with members of Parliament, bringing grassroots witnesses into their chambers to challenge them on their roles in peace-building. They held simulated peace negotiations that included all parties and covered previously taboo topics.
