IMF–World Bank Meetings: Cameroon’s Performance Saluted

The recognition came during the 2025 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, held in Washington, D.C., from October 13 to 18, 2025.

Cameroon has been praised by its international partners for its resilience and commitment to enforcing more structural reforms amid global economic turbulence. The recognition came during the 2025 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, held in Washington, D.C., from October 13 to 18, 2025. Leading the Cameroonian delegation were the Ministers of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey and that of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, alongside the Ambassador of Cameroon to the USA, H.E. Henri Etoundi Essomba. The delegation engaged in high-level talks with experts from the Bretton Woods institutions focusing on reinforcing economic governance, improving public fiscal management, and accelerating private sector growth, as Cameroon has had positive reviews in these areas. Debt sustainability and fiscal discipline were discussed, with IMF experts advising on more aggressive tax reforms and transparent budgeting. “It was a useful stock taking of the developments in Cameroon and the government’s ambitions to further increase investments and work on structural reforms” Christine Dieterich- Adviser, Africa Department- IMF stated. Infrastructure development was also a point of focus, as Cameroon’s partners called for a speedy completion of major projects such as the construction and rehabilitation of roads, the urbanization initiatives in some major cities and the restructuring of the National Oil Refinery Company, SONARA. The World Bank Group promised to assist Cameroon improve its educational policy so that graduates are impacted with modern skills, ready for the evolving job market.
