Strengthening National Food Security: Gov’t Reviews Livestock Dev’t Project

This was during an interministerial meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, on October 21, 2025.
Pace in the implementation of the Livestock Development Project (PRODEL), a government initiative to strengthen national food security, has been reviewed during an interministerial meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, on October 21, 2025. The project is funded by the World Bank through a credit from the international development association and between 2017 to 2023, the team worked to improve food selfsufficiency in 30 Councils in the Far North, North, Adamawa and East Regions. The meeting thus focused on reviewing all areas related to strengthening technical aspects and providing materials, infrastructure, and equipment for sectors such as cattle, pigs, poultry, and small ruminants.
During the meeting, the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr Taiga hailed the positive results obtained through the PRODEL project which amongst other things has reduced mortality of young cattle from 26.9 to 9.1 per cent and led to 14 per cent incremental sales in value chain products including milk, poultry, pig and honey. The case of unpaid dues owed to suppliers within PRODEL project was also examined during the meeting.
