South West: Chiefs Advocate For Peace

The custodians of the tradition in the South West Region have issued a clarion call for peace and calm after the October 12 presidential election and declaration of results.

As the nation holds its breath for the proclamation of the verdict of the ballot box following the October 12 presidential election in Cameroon, traditional rulers of the South West Region under the canopy of the South West Chiefs Conference (SWECC) have called on all indigenes and non-indigenes to demonstrate maturity and calm as the results of the recent presidential election is awaited. In a release titled “Call for Calm and Peace,” signed by the President, HRM Dr Mokube Ahmadou John, the chiefs urge all Cameroonians and non-nationals residing in the region to exercise restraint and mutual respect after the presidential polls. “The South West Chiefs’ Conference hereby appeals to all South Westerners, all non-South Westerners and all non-nationals residing in the South West Region, to demonstrate the same maturity and calm that was observed during the period of campaigns and throughout the presidential periods, to continue to exercise the same restraint and mutual respect for one another, while we await the proclamation of results of the election, and more so after the proclamation of same,” the release reads.
