South West: Anxiety, Vigilance

The population of the six administrative Divisions are going about their socioeconomic activities unperturbed amidst calls for calm.
The South West Region is not indifferent from the national frenzy that has characterized the country after the October 12 presidential election. As the results of the polls are being awaited to be released on Monday October 27 by the Constitutional Council, anxiety is mounting among political stakeholders in the Region. Public opinion is divided as some well-meaning Cameroonians are advocating for peace and vigilance after the publication of the results while others who are clamouring for change, are all over the digital space calling for citizens to go out and defend their votes. No matter the spectrum of opinions, denizens in major cities and towns of the South West Region like Buea, Limbe, Kumba, Tiko, Mamfe, Tombel, Ekondo Titi, Bangem and Menji are going about their daily activities normally. Socio-economic activities however slowed down on Thursday October 23 following social media misinformation on the publication of results of the election and calls for street protest. By press time, the buzzling Great Soppo market was timid and offices and business premises in Buea also opened their doors reluctantly.
