An exceptional convoy of dozens of tanker trucks filled with fuel has entered the Malian capital under heavy escort from the Malian Armed Forces. The delivery, the largest since the start of the energy crisis that arrived the country during the weekend, was greeted by a jubilant population, eager to see the situation return to normal. For several weeks, Mali has been facing a severe fuel shortage, caused by armed groups blocking strategic routes. The disruption of supply corridors has led to soaring prices at the pump and on the black market, as well as numerous power outages, paralyzing the economy and plunging households into energy insecurity.
The arrival of the convoy marks a major step forward in terms of logistics and security. It demonstrates the efforts made by the authorities to restore the supply chain and contain the destabilizing factors. While awaiting the resumption of regular deliveries, residents of Bamako are already hoping that gas stations will be able to reopen without restrictions and that the pressure surrounding access to energy will begin to ease. This is a first step toward a return to normalcy in a country where fuel remains vital for the operation of services, businesses, and daily life.
