University of Buea : Digital Technology Driving Teaching, Research

The “Place to be”, as the institution is fondly known, has wholeheartedly adopted digital innovation in fostering its mission of teaching, research and community outreach as the 2025/2026 academic year unfolds.
It was a bustling Molyko campus of the University of Buea on Thursday November 27, 2025 when Cameroon Tribune visited. The streets were as busy as beehives while lecture halls were all jammed by students as they followed their lessons. Teaching, learning and research activities are fully on course in the institution since October. The institution’s eight faculties and three schools are all in full swing.
Founded in 1993, the University of Buea has evolved tremendously with time, punctuated with several reforms in the higher education sector. One of such is the adoption of digital technology and professionalization of programmmes to give graduates hands-on skills needed in the job market. The evolution of the university is in tandem with contemporary times, warranting alignment to digital technology. This is why the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Horace Ngomo Manga baptized the 33rd batch of students as “Batch of Digital Innovators and Transformers” while officially welcoming 12,427 freshmen into the University of Buea community on November 22, 2025. This also explains Prof Ngomo’s assertion that UB is permanently innovating. With the construction of a digital centre in the University, several innovations to adapt teaching and learning to present exigencies have been taken. The institution has introduced a compulsory course; ICT100 for all students. This, he said, is to equip students with ICTs skills.
