Cameroon-US Partnership : New Financial Deal To Strengthen Healthcare

This was highlighted during the second statutory meeting of the National Committee for the Fight Against AIDS yesterday December 10, 2025.
Cameroon is poised to reinforce its healthcare system through a landmark partnership with the United States of America. The strategic collaboration seeks to enhance healthcare in the country with focus on improving access to essential healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable populations as well as advancing progress towards global HIV management objectives. The implications of the America First Global Health Strategy were presented to stakeholders yesterday, December 10, 2025, in Yaounde, during the second statutory meeting of the National Committee for the Fight Against AIDS for the 2025 fiscal year. The Minister of Public Health was represented during discussions by the Technical Adviser Number 1, Eyenga Njomo Elysée Amour.
The agenda included, inter alia, presenting the programmatic results of the National AIDS Control Committee (NACC) for the first half of 2025, reviewing the implementation of the NACC annual work plan, and discussing the new global strategy for US government support to the country. Eyenga Njomo Elysée Amour recalled that the abrupt cessation of certain funding this year, particularly in the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, had led to disruptions in some prevention, treatment, and care services. However, thanks to the government's performance and strategic positioning, the country is among the 16 countries out of 71 eligible for US funding under the new bilateral agreement, the American First Global Health Strategy.
According to Dr Rogers Ajeh of the Grant Coordination Unit of the Global Fund Project, the US strategy seeks to reduce reliance on external funding, optimise resource allocation, and minimise wastage.
