Urban Development : Understanding The World Bank Funding

The Government, in partnership with the World Bank, has initiated the Sustainable Urban Land Management Project, aimed at transforming urban infrastructure and land management in the cities of Yaounde and Douala. The project, supported by the World Bank at the sum of $200 million (approximately FCFA 122 billion) and spanning six years, received approval from the World Bank's Board of Directors on May 30, 2007 and is anticipated to become effective as of January 2026. Prior to the formal launch of the tender process, a preliminary market consultation session was convened on Monday, December 15, 2025, bringing together stakeholders, consultancy firms and potential suppliers, with a view to refining the project's procurement strategy.
During the opening discussions, Apoba née Djeudam Towa Sagene Fatira, Head of Division for Urban Social Development, representing the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach in ensuring contracts are well-targeted, effectively executed, and yield maximum impact. She underscored that the approach reflects the government's commitment to integrity, effectiveness, transparency, and strict adherence to procedures. Transparency, she noted, is a cornerstone of good governance and crucial to the project's success. “We will insist on strict compliance with procurement procedures, whether Cameroonian or World Bank, and ensure that this session guarantees a perfect understanding of technical requirements, ensuring fair and transparent competition,” the Minister's representative stressed.
