Music : Charly Releases New Single, "Ikon"

Renowned makossa legend, Charly Nelle, has released a new single titled “Ikon”. During a press conference on December 12, he addressed the public for the first time amid recent online scrutiny. His heartfelt statement, titled “My Share of the Truth,” marked a significant moment in his career.
With nearly four decades in the Cameroonian music scene, Charly Nelle explained that the new single, “Ikon”, meaning “Jealousy”, captures both a painful acknowledgment of emotional turmoil and a liberating message.
Charly Nelle, who gained fame with his iconic 1985 EP “Makossa” and boasts a discography of approximately fifteen albums, is confronting the challenges that plagued him in 2024.
Despite dismissing online accusations as "a fly bite on an elephant", the relentless social media attacks have clearly impacted him. "I loved my brothers, but the reaction was catastrophic", he expressed, his disappointment.
Charly Nelle revealed that he was "inspired by God" to create “Ikon”, a song that masterfully intertwines Cameroonian rumba with the traditional Sawa rhythm of ambass-bey. "We’re tearing each other apart like crabs in a basket", he declared, urging unity within the community.
He directed a plea at the Sawa community: "I don’t know why we’re killing each other when we have so much to offer".
