Refereeing : CAF Demands Professionalism, Integrity

Patrice Motsepe recently met with match officials to emphasize their pivotal role in delivering a successful 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Refereeing forms a cornerstone of any football match. Decisions by these officials can make or mar a game, shaping a tournament's image for better or worse. Aware of this, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is sparing no effort to ensure the referees officiating at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 uphold the highest-degree of professionalism. 
A meeting held recently in Rabat with CAF President, Patrice Motsepe; brought together referees, assistant referees, and Video Assistant Referee (VAR) officials from across the continent. The objective was clear; remind them of the stakes.
The come together gave Dr. Patrice Motsepe a platform to meet directly with the officials, reaffirming CAF's expectations of professionalism, integrity, and excellence. He underlined that officiating standards must match African football's global progress.
