Labour Day in Bamenda: Enthusiastic Celebration!

Workers from Ministries, semi-public institutions, trade unions and local councils massively participated in the International Labour Day festivities on May 1, 2026 in the Regional capital.
The Bamenda Commercial Avenue Grandstand once more on May 1, 2026 played host to festivities marking the 140th edition of the International Labour Day with workers and authorities demonstrating their attachment to the celebration theme, “Social Dialogue and decent work: Factors of peace, national cohesion and economic development of the company.” North West Regional Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique presided at the colourful celebration. Talking to the press at the end of the event, he said, “I congratulate them first for the huge mobilization from all over the region and from all walks of life to enjoy and to celebrate the Labour Day here in Bamenda. They have seized the opportunity to send a strong message that despite the challenges they are still facing, things are coming back bit by bit to normalcy in the North West Region.” Governor Lele Lafrique used the occasion to declare, “I am therefore appealing to everyone to come on board and help in bringing back long lasting peace in our various working places and communities. The workers have shown the way today.” The Governor in his address to workers responded to the speech of the trade unions in Bamenda delivered by Tatisong Nzounkekang Eric who is the President of the Confederation of Cameroon Trade Union (CCTU). He said trade unions should not be partisan, ethnic or religious. He stated the fact that success in the working world can only be achieved when the workers, employers, administration and other stakeholders work together as social partners.
