South West: Councils Urged To Uphold Ethical Obligations

It is now expected that complaints from users of council services about arrogance and mistreatment by council staff in the South West Region will reduce or be curbed. Chiefs of services and bureau heads serving in the 31 councils and two city councils of the region in services such as hygiene and sanitation, civil status, town planning, municipal police etc have been told to uphold their professional obligations. From the six divisions of the region, they assembled at the Kumba City Council hall on Thursday, May 28, 2026, on the invitation of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator for the South West Region (OPIC). Research Officer No 4 at OPIC, Ekema Brown Meede, in his presentation titled “the professional and ethical responsibilities of service and bureau heads of city and municipal councils” highlighted the functions that can be found within the council setup.
