Fight Against Corruption In SW: Stakeholders Evaluate Regional Plan

The workshop in Buea on June 17-19 at the behest of CONAC also elaborated the 2026 Plan of Action as well as upgraded the capacities of various actors.
The National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC) has mobilized stakeholders in the fight against corruption in the South West Region, for a three-day workshop to evaluate the 2025 Regional Anti-Corruption Action Plans and develop new strategies for 2026. The workshop brought together various public administrations, local and regional authorities, civil society actors as well as religious and traditional authorities of the region to review the performance of the 2025 performance and chat the way forward to combat the scourge which is still endemic in the region. During the 3-day get-together, the key stakeholders assessed achievements of the March 2025 Plan of Action, identified shortcomings and proposed strategies to enhance the fight against corruption. Representing the Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, Christian Achaleke Leke, a member of the Coordination Committee of CONAC, noted that the South West was ranked 9th out of the 10 regions during the 2022 action plan evaluation with 26.67 Per cent, a slight improvement from 25.91 per cent recorded under the 2021 Action Plan. This performance, he noted, makes the current Action Plan even more critical and urgent as corruption still persist. The evaluation of the 2025 plan, he added, is not therefore a mere routine but rather a powerful governance mechanism designed to counter the cankerworm. “We must therefore confront this task with absolute seriousness especially given the devastating consequences of corruption in our region.
