Ombe: CDC Decries Invasion, Destruction Of Palms Trees

Thursday August 20, 2026 was a gloomy day for the ma­ nagement and workers of the Cameroon Development Cor­ poration (CDC) as the State- owned agroindustry suffered another invasion and destruc­ tion of its plantations. This time, it was at the Block 10 of the Esuke Section in the Bota Palm Estate situated in Ombe, along the Mutengene- Limbe road, where a group of individuals claiming to be re­ presenting the Moslem Com­ munity in Mutengene, brought in chainsaws and fell 52 young palm trees. According to CDC workers who were harvesting nuts in the plantation, the in­ vaders stormed the plantation with armed military and se­ curity men, threatening to ar­ rest any of them who will dare to challenge them. This is the second time the supposed Moslem Community in Mutengene is encroaching into CDC plantations and des­ troying palm trees. Earlier this year, the same group cut down palm trees at the Ndongo Sec­ tion near the Tiko Gulf. Though CDC management has ack­nowledged that the group of indi­ viduals had applied for 44 hectares of land from CDC to construct a Mosque and other facilities, the said application has not yet been granted by the government.
