2026 Cameroon GCE: Slight Drop In Performance

E uphoria gripped the nation on Au­ gust 21, 2026, when results of the Cameroon General Certificate of Education (CGCE) 2026 for the English subsystem of education were made public. Candidates in Buea and nationwide hurried to social media platforms where the results were shared widely. Ululation erupted each time a candidate saw his or her name on the list. A successful Advanced Level candidate, Ngosong Nelly of Bilingual Grammar School Molyko Buea who scored five out of five papers said her family had been in celebration ever since the results were released. She plans to enroll in the Faculty of Health Science in the University of Buea. Elisabeth-Faith Nahlim Lave of Hope Academy Bilingual High School Buea who scored 11 out of 11 in Ordinary Level said after the celebration, she is now ready for Lower sixths. The release signed by the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, indicated that out of 196,579 candidates who sat the four examinations, 133,429 candidates were declared successful giving an overall 67.88% success rate. This is against 75.46% success rate re­ corded in 2025. The Cameroon GCE Ordi­ nary Level has 74.43% pass rate with 65,539 candidates passed out of 88,053 who sat. Meanwhile, the CGCE Advanced Level scored 61.78% pass rate with 43,211 declared successful out of 69,947 who wrote the examination. For the Tech­ nical and Vocational Examination Inter­ mediate Level (TVEE Intermediate Level), it has 60.50% pass rate with 16,804 successful candidates out of 27,775 who sat. It has witnessed an improvement of 8.39%. Finally, Technical and Vocational Education Examination Advanced Level (TVEE Advanced Level) scored a 72.89% pass rate with 7,875 candidates declared successful out of 10,804 who sat.
