Voting Of Regional Councillors : Electors Made Choices Calmly

The exercise took place smoothly yesterday across all the divisional headquarters of the country.

Electoral operations for the voting of Regional Councillors took place yesterday November 30, 2025 across the national territory without any major incident being observed as at the close of polls by 6pm. Electors who are municipal councillors for delegates of divisions and first, second and third class chiefs for traditional rulers, took to the polls to elect 900 regional councillors. In order words, each region shall have 90 regional councillors, elected for a five-year term. This is the second time the election is taking place in Cameroon, after the maiden election in December 2020. Attention is now on the proclamation of the results, an exercise which shall be done by the regional supervisory commission, in accordance with Section 265 of the Electoral Code. Going by the law, the commission shall proclaim the results at the level of the constituency concerned within 72 hours following the close of the polls. 
The election was by indirect universal suffrage and took place at the divisional headquarters of the region.  Across the ten regions of the country, polling stations were opened at 8am and closed at 6pm in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Code. Declarations at the close of polls by both the Director General of Elections and the Minister of Territorial Administer appreciate the political maturity of the competing parties and the electorate. Other stakeholders in the process like election observers, the administration, as well as the defence and security forces were also appreciated. 
As observed across the national territory, a polling station had a maximum of 500 electors and they were all located in public premises or in premises open to the public. The same principles of the voting exercise obtained in all the polling stations. Before the first elector voted, the Chairperson of the Local Polling Commission publicly opened the ballot box to ascertain that it is empty and has no opening.
