Cameroonian athletes competing in the 2026 Senior African Athletics Championships, currently underway in Accra, Ghana, have paid a heartfelt tribute to their compatriot, Colonel Hamad Kalkaba Malboum; President of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee; who passed away on May 13, 2026, in Yaounde. On the very day of his demise, Cameroon secured two gold medals. Emmanuel Eseme claimed the men's 100m title in a blistering 10.25 seconds, while Herverge Kole Etame dominated the women's 100m in 11.44 seconds, both etching their names in African athletics history. These triumphs add to the inaugural gold medal won by Cameroon on day one (May 12, 2026) of the competition.
